The organization has funded more than 7,000 scientific research projects and supports an education program combating geographic illiteracy. National Geographic employs 60 full-time cartographers who produce a variety of maps, including the award-winning seamless TOPO! U.S. dataset, now available to GIS users via ArcWeb Services.
